United 737 MAX 10 Seat Guide: What to Expect (2026)
Preview guide. This aircraft is not flying passengers yet (first delivery expected around mid-2027). Everything below is what the airline has announced or what has been reported, and we say which is which. There are no row numbers yet because no seat map has been published. We will add a row-by-row seat map to this page when the aircraft enters service.
✈️ Quick Verdict
Aircraft: Boeing 737 MAX 10, the longest 737 — about 5ft longer than the MAX 9
Status: Certified by the FAA on 20 October 2026; United expects its first aircraft around mid-2027.
Reported layout: 189 seats — 20 United First, 169 economy including 64 Economy Plus. United has not published it.
Cabins: United First 2-2 recliner · Economy Plus and economy 3-3
Lie-flat seats: No. United has dropped its earlier plan to fit them on the MAX 10.
Replaces: the 757-300 on high-capacity domestic routes
Where the MAX 10 stands
United is the largest customer for the 737 MAX 10, with 167 on firm order, but none has been delivered. The FAA certified the MAX 10 on 20 October 2026, without a software change. Each aircraft still has to pass Boeing’s delivery checks before it is handed over.
United’s own timeline has moved too. In August 2026 the airline said it expected its first MAX 10 around July 2027. United has also said it will not take new aircraft with the affected flight-management software versions. The MAX 10 was certified without a software change, so that condition still stands, and the mid-2027 date still depends on a software version United will accept.
The reported cabin: 189 seats
United has not published a MAX 10 seat map. Reports put the layout at 189 seats:
| Cabin | MAX 10 (reported) | MAX 9 / 737-900ER | A321neo |
|---|---|---|---|
| United First | 20 | 20 | 20 |
| Economy (incl. Economy Plus) | 169 (64 Economy Plus) | 159 | 180 |
| Total | 189 | 179 | 200 |
So the MAX 10 slots between the MAX 9 and the A321neo, with the same 20-seat United First cabin as both. On United’s other 737s, United First is a 2-2 domestic recliner with about 37in of pitch and a seat about 20.5in wide; expect the same seat here. Economy Plus is extra-legroom economy at the front of the main cabin and in the exit rows, not a separate cabin.
What happened to the lie-flat MAX 10?
- United once planned premium, lie-flat-equipped MAX 10s for longer routes. It has dropped that plan: the airline now treats the MAX 10 as a high-capacity domestic aircraft, replacing the 757-300.
- Reports say United is left holding lie-flat seats it ordered for the type, and its CEO has said they do not fit on its other aircraft.
What to expect when you book
- United First: the same recliner as the rest of the 737 fleet. Expect the usual picks: away from the forward lavatory and galley, and away from the last First row, where recline can be restricted.
- Economy Plus: the front of economy and the exit rows. On a longer 737, the exit rows matter more: check whether the seat is in the first or second exit row, because the row in front of an exit row usually cannot fully recline.
- Economy: six across, 3-3. The extra length is extra rows, so the rear of the cabin will be further from the front lavatory and closer to the rear one.
We will publish the row numbers, exit rows and windowless seats once the first aircraft flies. Until then, the United 737 MAX 9 guide is the closest match.
