The trap: one name, two business seats

EVA sells its A330 business cabin as Premium Laurel — not Royal Laurel, its 1-2-1 product on the 777 and 787. Behind the name are two different seats:

Newer seatOlder seat
BedFully flat, hard-shellAngled — reclines flat but not level
Seat pitchAbout 60inAbout 62in
Layout2-2-2, pairs angled slightly towards each other2-2-2, seats facing straight ahead
Aisle accessD and G onlyD and G only
Economy behindIdenticalIdentical

EVA still lists both seats for the A330-300 and does not say which aircraft has which. If a flat bed matters, check recent reviews of your flight number. On a short regional flight, the difference hardly matters.

On both versions, the window seats are boxed in. In a 2-2-2 layout only C, D, G and H are on an aisle, and the A and K window seats step over their neighbour to get out. The centre D and G seats are the ones to book: each has its own aisle, and together they make the best pair for a couple. They are rated green in every row except the front row of the flat-bed version, where 6D and 6G sit near a bassinet position.

Business: rows 6 to 10

Best: D and G, in rows 7 to 10 on either version, and row 6 too on the older one. On the older version, the window seats in rows 7, 8 and 9 are also rated green — 7A, 8A, 8K, 9A and 9K — with the best-aligned windows. On the newer version they are unrated: perfectly usable, but boxed in.

Avoid 10A and 10C. The lavatory is directly behind them, and both are rated red on both versions. Row 6 has a bassinet position, so on a family-heavy flight you may hear it; the front-row window seats 6A and 6K are rated yellow. Business has two lavatories at the front and one behind row 10.

Economy: rows 20 to 57

The economy cabin is the same on every A330-300: 2-4-2 with roughly 32in of pitch, which gives two people a window pair to themselves and narrows to 2-3-2 at rows 53 to 56.

Best: the window pairs 42A/K, 44A/K and 46A/K, and 50A and 50K, which have about 34in of pitch. All are rated green. For a couple, A + C or H + K anywhere from row 42 to 52 is the pick.

Legroom: row 20, at door 2, has only window pairs (A, C, H, K), with extra legroom; the door curves into 20A and 20K. 21D–21G are the centre bulkhead. Row 41 is the door-3 row: 41A, 41C, 41H and 41K have legroom and open floor, and 41D–41G are a bulkhead in the lavatory queue. All of these are rated yellow — no underseat storage, the tray in the armrest — rather than green.

Avoid: rows 37 and 38, all sixteen seats, directly in front of the mid-cabin lavatory block, and 40D–40G directly behind it. All are rated red. 23A/K, 25A/K and 49A/K have the window out of line with the seat.

Is EVA retiring the A330-300?

Gradually. EVA’s own fleet list showed nine A330-300s in service in September 2026, down from twelve, as newer 787-10s and A321neos take over its routes. No final date has been announced, and the A330 continues to fly regional routes from Taipei.

Frequently asked questions

Is EVA A330-300 business class lie-flat?

On the newer seat, yes, fully flat. EVA also lists an older angled seat for the A330-300, which reclines flat but not level. Both are called Premium Laurel, and EVA does not publish which aircraft has which.

Do EVA A330 business seats have aisle access?

Only the centre D and G seats, and the C and H seats beside the aisles. The A and K window seats have to step past the seat beside them; the layout is 2-2-2 on both versions.

What is the best economy seat on the EVA A330-300?

A window pair in the rear cabin — 42A/C, 44A/C, 46A/C or the matching H and K seats — or 50A and 50K, which have about 34in of pitch.

Is Premium Laurel the same as Royal Laurel?

No. Royal Laurel is EVA’s 1-2-1 business class on the 777-300ER and 787, with aisle access from every seat. Premium Laurel is the 2-2-2 business class on the A330-300.

Which seats to avoid on the EVA A330-300?

In business, 10A and 10C, against the lavatory. In economy, rows 37 and 38 and 40D to 40G, either side of the mid-cabin lavatories.
