The catch: six of the 16 flat beds are window seats behind a neighbour

Thai’s A321neo is the airline’s first single-aisle jet with flat beds in business. The first of 32 arrived in January 2026, and the type now flies regional routes from Bangkok such as Singapore, Delhi, Mumbai, Manila and Yangon, with more Indian and Southeast Asian routes added for the 2026/27 winter schedule.

The Royal Silk cabin is a staggered layout. Rows 11, 14 and 16 are two pairs, lettered A C | H K. Rows 12 and 15 hold a single seat on each side, B and J, set in the middle between the window and the aisle with a side console on each side. These are the “throne” seats. There is no row 13.

So the trap is the window seat. On a booking map, 11A, 11K, 14A, 14K, 16A and 16K look like the private window choice. They are not: each sits beside an aisle seat, and you step past your neighbour to get out. Only 10 of the 16 seats have their own way to the aisle — the four thrones and the six C and H aisle seats.

The second trap is the aircraft itself. Thai still flies A320s on some of the same routes, with 12 recliners and no seatback screens. The version lottery section below shows how to tell them apart.

Royal Silk (rows 11–16)

16 flat beds, about 21in wide and about 76in long, at about 45in of pitch. Each seat has a large 4K touchscreen, Bluetooth audio, an AC socket and USB-A and USB-C charging. There are no privacy doors. One lavatory serves the whole cabin, at the front on the left, ahead of row 11.

  • Rows 12 and 15 — throne seats (B, J). One seat on each side, with a console on both sides and its own aisle. The most private seats on the aircraft and the pick for anyone flying alone.
  • Rows 11, 14 and 16 — pairs (A C | H K). A and K are at the window, C and H at the aisle. The pairs have a little more foot room than the thrones, but less storage and privacy.

Best Royal Silk seats

  • 12B, 12J, 15B, 15J — the four throne seats. Direct aisle access, no one beside you.
  • 11A + 11C, 11H + 11K — the front-row pairs, for two travelling together. 11A and 11K have the best-placed business windows.
  • 11C, 11H, 14C, 14H — aisle seats in a pair, if the thrones are gone and you are alone.

Royal Silk seats to think twice about

  • 11A, 11K, 14A, 14K, 16A, 16K as a solo traveller — window seats with a stranger between you and the aisle.
  • Row 11 if you are a light sleeper — the business lavatory and the forward galley are just ahead.

Economy (rows 31–57)

159 seats in a 3-3, lettered A B C | H J K, at about 30in of pitch in most rows. Every seat has a seatback screen. The front of the cabin is the roomier part: rows 32 to 36 have about 2in more than the rows behind the wing, and the two overwing exit rows have more again.

Rows 31 to 38: where the legroom is, and where it is not

  • Row 31 — the bulkhead behind business, but the wall is close, at about 18–19in. No floor storage, and the tray folds out of the armrest.
  • Rows 32–35 — about 32in of pitch. Row 35 is where the wing starts to fill the window.
  • Row 36 — the same 32in, but it does not fully recline because of the exit row behind.
  • Row 37 — the first exit row, about 36in. The most legroom in Economy.
  • Row 38 — the second exit row, about 34in.

Best Economy seats

  • 37A–37K — the exit row with the most legroom on the aircraft. The window seats look onto the wing.
  • 38A–38K — the second exit row, slightly less legroom.
  • 34A, 34K — a well-placed window in the extra-legroom block, just ahead of the wing.
  • 44A, 44K, 46A, 46K — the best-placed windows behind the wing.
  • 32A–34K — any seat here has about 2in more legroom than the rear cabin and a clear view.

Economy seats to avoid

  • 48A, 48K — no window at all, just wall.
  • 41A, 41K, 47A, 47K, 52A, 52K — the window sits behind the seat; lean back to see out.
  • Rows 55, 56 and 57 — directly in front of the rear lavatories. Row 57 is three seats on the right, H J K, and does not recline.
  • 54A, 54B, 54C, 55H, 55J — close enough to the lavatories to catch the queue.

Version lottery: A321neo or A320

Thai took over the former Thai Smile A320s in 2024 and refitted them with a two-class cabin: 12 Royal Silk recliners and 144 Economy seats. Those A320s still fly some of the routes the A321neo serves, including some flights between Bangkok and Singapore. The A320 is a full step down in business.

The letters overlap, and that is the trap. On the A321neo 12B is a throne seat. On the A320 12B is an ordinary aisle recliner beside 12A. And if you chose 15B or 15J, the A320 has no row 15, so a swap moves you to a seat you did not pick.

On the A320, the best business seat is 11A: the front row, a window, and no galley flagged beside it. 11B, 11J and 11K are just behind the forward galley. In Economy, take row 38: it has the exit legroom and reclines normally, while row 37 has the legroom but limited recline. Rows 53 and 54 sit in front of the rear lavatories, and row 54 does not recline.

How to tell which aircraft you are on

  • Check the aircraft type shown on your booking or in Manage Booking: A321neo or A320.
  • Open the seat map. If Royal Silk has B and J seats in rows 12 and 15, it is the A321neo. If every business row is A B J K and there is no row 15, it is the A320.
  • Economy that ends at row 57, with only three seats in the last row, is the A321neo. Ending at row 54 means the A320.
  • Check again a few days before departure: Thai can swap the aircraft on a regional route close to the date.

Frequently asked questions

Does Thai Airways have flat beds on the A321neo?

Yes. All 16 Royal Silk seats on the A321neo are flat beds. The older A320, which still flies some of the same routes, has recliners.

Which Thai A321neo business seats are throne seats?

12B, 12J, 15B and 15J. Each is a single seat with a console on both sides and its own aisle. The other 12 seats are in pairs.

Do all Thai A321neo business seats have aisle access?

No, 10 of 16 do. The window seats in the pair rows, 11A, 11K, 14A, 14K, 16A and 16K, reach the aisle past the seat beside them.

Which Thai A321neo economy seat has the most legroom?

Row 37, the first overwing exit row, at about 36in. Row 38 has about 34in, and rows 32 to 36 about 32in. Avoid row 31: it is the bulkhead, but the wall is close.

Is there Wi-Fi on the Thai A321neo?

Satellite Wi-Fi hardware is fitted. Early flights in 2026 flew without it switched on, and Thai has not said whether it will be free, so do not count on it yet.

How do I know if my flight is the A321neo or the A320?

Check the aircraft type on the booking, then the seat map: B and J seats in rows 12 and 15 mean the A321neo. See the steps above.
