Lufthansa flies 30 Airbus A320neos in a single 180-seat layout. The catch is that "180 seats" does not tell you it is a neo — Lufthansa also has three A320ceos in a 180-seat layout that ends at the same row 32. The reliable tell is power at the seat: the neo has USB-A and USB-C, the ceo has nothing at all.
Best seats: row 12 — all six. It has the extra legroom and a full recline. Row 11 looks identical on a booking map and is not: 11A, 11B, 11E and 11F cannot recline. Avoid rows 31 and 32 at the back, and 23A/23F for the window.

The 180-seat trap: how to tell a neo from a ceo
Lufthansa flies the A320 in three cabins, and two of them hold 180 seats and end at row 32. Counting seats will not separate them.
- Check for USB ports. Only the neo has them. If the booking page or the aircraft description mentions in-seat USB power, you are on the neo.
- Check the aircraft code. 32N or 32Q on the booking screen is the neo family; plain 320 is the ceo.
- A 168-seat map ending at row 30 is always a ceo — that is the larger ceo sub-fleet, covered in our A320 guide.
- Rows 13 and 17 are skipped on every version. No seats are missing.

Business Class (Euro-Business, rows 1–8)
Short-haul Business on Lufthansa is "Euro-Business": the same Economy seat, with the middle seat (B and E) blocked and never sold, so you always have an empty seat beside you. The curtain marking the back of the cabin moves with demand, so the last Business row changes flight to flight.
✅ Best in Business: a window or aisle seat in rows 2–5. Row 1 is the bulkhead: the tray table folds out of the armrest, which narrows the seat, and 1C, 1D, 1E and 1F sit against the forward galley.
Economy (rows 9–32) — the exit-row question
Standard pitch is about 28″, which is tight, so the extra-legroom rows are worth real money on this aircraft. There are two overwing exits, beside rows 11 and 12, and both rows are sold as extra legroom. They are not equally good.
❌ Row 11 is the wrong exit row. Because row 12 behind it is also an exit, 11A, 11B, 11E and 11F cannot fully recline — the seat back has to stay clear of the exit path. Only 11C and 11D keep a normal recline. On a booking map row 11 and row 12 look the same and often cost the same.
✅ Row 12 is the row to buy — all six seats. It is the aft overwing exit, so it has the extra legroom, and there is no exit behind it, so every seat reclines normally. 12A and 12F give you legroom, recline and a window; 12C and 12D give you legroom, recline and an aisle.
Row 10 is a near miss worth understanding. It runs about 31″, three inches more than the cabin norm, which is genuinely useful — but 10A, 10B, 10E and 10F also lose recline to the exit at row 11. 10C and 10D keep theirs, which makes them the quiet value pick if row 12 has gone. Row 9 runs about 30″ and keeps a full recline on all six seats: no exit-row premium, no exit-row penalty.
Seats to avoid
- Row 32 — the last row. About 27″, an inch tighter than the cabin norm, no recline at all, and the lavatories directly behind. 32C, 32D, 32E and 32F are rated red; 32A also has a misaligned window.
- 31A, 31B, 31C and 31D — against the rear galley: bright light and cart noise through the service. 31E and 31F escape it.
- 23A and 23F — the window sits behind the seat, so you lean back to see out. Every other row in that stretch is fine.
- Row 1 — bulkhead, tray in the armrest, galley ahead.

How do I know if my Lufthansa A320 is a neo?
Look for in-seat USB power. The A320neo has USB-A and USB-C at most seats; no Lufthansa A320ceo has any power at all. The aircraft code helps too — 32N is the neo, plain 320 is the ceo. Seat count will not tell you, because Lufthansa flies both a neo and a ceo at 180 seats ending at row 32.
Which is the best seat on the Lufthansa A320neo?
