IndiGo A320neo Seat Selection Guide (2026)
IndiGo is the world's largest A320neo operator and runs the type in two all-Economy configurations. Both are dense single-class cabins with no IFE, no power and no WiFi, and both put the XL extra-legroom seats in exactly the same places. But the two are not interchangeable at the back of the aircraft, and that is where the seat-selection advice diverges.

Version Lottery — The Two Configurations
Type 1 — 186 seats, 31 rows
The dominant config and the one on all recent deliveries. Uses the Airbus SpaceFlex rear galley and lavatory arrangement to fit an extra row at the back. Economy runs rows 1 to 31. Roughly 88% of IndiGo A320neo flights operate this config.
Type 2 — 180 seats, 30 rows
The older arrangement with conventional full-size rear lavatories. Economy runs rows 1 to 30. Around 22 aircraft.
Which is better — and it isn't close
The onboard product is identical: same Safran Z85 seat, same 18" width, same 3" recline, same pitch ladder, same XL rows at 1, 12 and 13, same complete absence of IFE, power and WiFi. The difference is entirely at the back.
🚫 Type 1 has 4 seats to avoid. Type 2 has 12.
On Type 2 the aft lavatory bank sits directly behind row 30, and its footprint compromises the last three rows: all six seats in row 28 catch the lavatory queue, and all twelve seats in rows 29 and 30 sit immediately against the lavatories and galley. That is 18 compromised seats out of 180.
On Type 1 the SpaceFlex rear is more compact, so the damage is contained to rows 30 and 31 — and even then 31D and 31E are only moderately affected. Type 1's genuinely bad seats are 31A, 31B, 31C and 31F.
The one place Type 2 edges ahead is row 1. On Type 1 the bulkhead row sits between a forward lavatory and the forward galley, so all six seats carry traffic and noise. On Type 2, row 1 has no such flags.
- 31A and 31F on Type 1 have no window at all — wall only. A windowless window seat.
- 29A and 29F are among the best-aligned windows on Type 1, and among the worst seats on Type 2 (immediately beside the lavatories). Same seat number, opposite verdict — check the row count before you pick.
XL Seats (Extra Legroom) — 18 Seats on Both Configs
XL is IndiGo's paid extra-legroom product. It sits at row 1, row 12 and row 13 on both configurations. Rows 12 and 13 are the overwing exit rows and carry 35" of pitch — a full 6–7" more than standard.

- 13A / 13F — the pick. Second exit row, window, 35" pitch, and the seat still reclines because row 14 behind is standard Economy.
- 13C / 13D. Aisle equivalent, same 35" pitch and full recline.
- 12C / 12D. First exit row aisles — unlike the rest of row 12 these two retain their recline.
XL seats with trade-offs
- 12A, 12B, 12E, 12F. Excellent legroom but no recline — the exit row behind needs a clear path. Take row 13 instead if you plan to sleep.
- Row 1 (all seats). Bulkhead knee space and first off the aircraft, but the tray table lives in the armrest so the usable seat is narrower, and there is no underseat storage during takeoff and landing. On Type 1 you also get lavatory and galley traffic on both sides.
Standard Economy — Best and Worst
Rows 2–11 run at 29". Rows 14 to the back run at 28".
Best standard Economy seats
- 5A / 5F — great window alignment, forward cabin, 29" pitch. The strongest standard pick on either config.
- 26A / 26F — great alignment on both configs, far enough forward to stay clear of the rear galley.
- 23A / 23F on Type 1 — both green-rated. On Type 2 only 23A carries the same alignment.
- 29A / 29F on Type 1 only — great alignment, third row from the back, so expect galley traffic. On Type 2 these are seats to avoid.
- Row 14 (any seat) — first row behind the exits; nobody in row 13 can recline into you.
Standard Economy seats to avoid
- Row 11 (A, B, E, F) — directly in front of the first exit row, so recline is restricted. 11C and 11D keep theirs.
- 2F, 25A, 25F, 28A, 28F — poor window alignment. On 25A/25F the window sits behind the seat.
- Type 1, row 30 — 30B is narrower (fuselage taper) and 30D/30E/30F sit against the aft galley.
- Type 1, row 31 — 31A and 31F have no window and are narrower; 31B and 31C are beside the lavatory door.
