Sister guide: Air Europa 737-800 — the same seats and pitch; Air Europa Express 737-800s even share this exact layout.

The catch: new aircraft, same seat

Air Europa took its first 737 MAX 8 in 2025 and more are arriving to replace older 737-800s. If you were hoping the newer aircraft meant more room, it does not: Air Europa gives the same pitch figures for both, and seat for seat the MAX 8 matches the 189-seat 737-800s flown by Air Europa Express. The MAX is quieter, more fuel-efficient and has bigger overhead bins. The seat is the same.

Business class is the European kind — the economy seat with the middle left empty — at about 31in, one inch more than economy. The most legroom on the aircraft is in exit row 15, about 38in, which also reclines fully. Row 14 has the same legroom and limited recline.

Business class

Usually rows 1–3; the curtain moves with demand. Row 1 has open floor ahead, but the tray is in the armrest and there is no floor storage for take-off and landing. A single lavatory at the front serves the cabin.

Best business seats

  • 1A, 1F — first row, first off, open floor ahead.
  • 2A, 2F, 3A, 3F — window seats with storage under the seat in front.

Economy

Rows 4–13 have about 31in, rows 16 onward about 30in. The overwing exits are rows 14 and 15, and the two rear lavatories sit behind the short row 32.

Best economy seats

  • 15A–15F — about 38in and a full recline. The best seat on the aircraft for space.
  • 14A–14F — the same legroom, but limited recline. 14A and 14F have the window ahead of the seat.
  • Rows 4–9 — the extra inch of pitch over the rear cabin, near the front door.

Economy seats to avoid

  • 10A, 11A, 11F — no window.
  • Row 13 — limited recline, with the exit row behind.
  • 32A, 32B, 32C — the short last row: narrower seats, no recline, lavatory behind.
  • 31C–31F — the galley and lavatory behind.
  • 5A, 5F, 8A, 8F, 18A, 18F — the window sits behind the seat.

737 MAX 8 or 737-800?

The same seat, the same pitch, the same exit rows and the same windowless seats. The MAX 8 has 189 seats; Air Europa’s own 737-800s have 186, with a full six-seat last row instead of a three-seat one. Wi-Fi is fitted only to the newer 737-800s. See the Air Europa 737-800 guide for both of its layouts.
