The catch: ten across

Most airlines fit nine economy seats across an A350. French bee fits ten, in a 3-4-3 layout, and that is how it gets 376 economy seats on board. Pitch is fair at about 32in, but each seat is only about 16in wide — noticeably narrower than on a nine-across A350, and you will feel it at the shoulders and elbows.

That makes width the thing to shop for. A few seats on this aircraft have more of it, and they are the best economy seats on board.

The best economy seats: 46G, 47G and 48G

As the fuselage tapers towards the tail, rows 46 to 50 drop to nine across, 3-3-3, with the centre block losing its F seat. That leaves the G seat in each row with nobody beside it on one side: extra elbow room, and in 46G the underseat space next to you is yours as well.

46G, 47G and 48G are rated green. 49G and 50G have the same gap but sit too close to the rear lavatories — rows 49 and 50 are mostly rated red. The other seats in rows 46–48 are ordinary economy seats with the usual width.

36A and 36K also have open space beside them: behind the over-wing lavatories, row 36 has only two seats on each side, set inboard, with legroom and no neighbour by the wall. The trade-off is lavatory traffic, no underseat storage and a misaligned window, so they are rated yellow. 37A and 37K behind them have no seat directly in front, which gives legroom with a window.

Seats to avoid

No usable window: 25A, 25K, 32A and 32K. The windows sit well behind these seats, so the view is a wall. All four are rated red.

Next to the lavatories: all twenty seats in rows 34 and 35 sit directly in front of the over-wing lavatory block and are rated red, and 36D to 36G sit directly behind it. At the back, 49A–49C, 49H–49K and most of row 50 are beside the rear lavatories. Row 51 has only three seats, D, E and G, and 51D and 51G are red.

Bulkhead rows 11 and 17 have about 29–30in to the wall, no underseat storage and the tray in the armrest. They are not bad, but they are not the legroom upgrade a bulkhead usually is, and both have bassinet positions. 16E and 16F have a galley behind them.

Premium: rows 5 to 9

Thirty-five recliners in a 2-3-2 layout, about 36in of pitch and 18in wide, with about 7in of recline, AC power and USB. The two-seat pairs on each side suit couples; E, in the centre three, is a true middle seat.

8A and 8K are the best seats in the cabin, with the best-aligned windows, and both are rated green. Row 5 is the bulkhead: extra legroom, but no underseat storage and a bassinet position nearby. 7A and 7K have the window behind the seat. Row 9 seats sit near the bassinet positions at the front of economy and are rated yellow. Premium passengers share the economy lavatories.

Frequently asked questions

How wide are French bee economy seats on the A350-900?

About 16in, in a ten-across 3-4-3 layout. Pitch is about 32in. The seats near the tail, rows 46 to 50, are the same width but the rows drop to nine across, so the G seat has open space beside it.

What is the best economy seat on the French bee A350-900?

46G, 47G or 48G, which have no seat beside them on one side. For a window, 15A, 15K, 39A or 39K.

Which French bee A350-900 seats have no window?

25A, 25K, 32A and 32K. The windows sit well behind these seats.

Is French bee Premium worth it?

It is a recliner, not a bed, but it is a big step up in width: about 18in against 16in, in a 2-3-2 layout, with about 36in of pitch and AC power. Choose 8A or 8K.

Does French bee have Wi-Fi?

Yes. The A350-900 has Ka-band satellite Wi-Fi, alongside seatback screens at every seat.
