Air France A350-900 Seat Selection Guide (2026)
Air France operates the A350-900 in three cabin configurations, not two. Business ranges from 34 to 48 seats, the seat letters change between them, and the newest build has a completely different economy layout with a dedicated Economy Comfort zone. Two things trip travellers up more than anything else: the centre pair in business is D and H, not D and G, and the premium economy bulkhead is the worst row in that cabin, not the best. This guide covers all three, row by row.
Quick Verdict
| Cabin | Best business | Best premium economy | Best economy | Avoid |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 cabin (25 aircraft) | 6A, 6L, 7A, 7L — mid-cabin door suites | Row 16 or 17, seats A/B/K/L | 21C, 21J, 36A/L, 40A/L | Row 15 bulkhead, 17A, 17L, rows 27–28, rows 43–45 |
| 2019 cabin (16 aircraft) | 4A, 4L, 6A, 6L; centre pair E–G on even rows | Row 11, seats A/C/J/L | 31A, 31L, 34A/L, 38A/L, 42A/L | Row 10 entirely, rows 28–29, 21A, 21L |
| 2026 cabin (newest build) | 3A, 3L, 6A, 6L | Row 16 or 17, seats A/B/K/L | Row 22 Economy Comfort bulkhead, 30A, 30L, 34A/L | Row 15 bulkhead, rows 28–29, rows 43–45 |
✈️ Quick Verdict
In business, book a mid-cabin A or L on the door-suite cabins. In premium economy, book the second or third row and never the bulkhead. In economy, the seat you actually want depends on which of the three aircraft turns up.
The Version Lottery
Three published cabins, and the booking engine will not tell you which one you have.
| Cabin | Business | Premium Economy | Economy | Total | Doors in business | Fleet |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 cabin | 48, rows 1–14 | 32, rows 15–18 | 212, rows 21–45 | 292 | Yes | 25 aircraft |
| 2019 cabin | 34, rows 1–9 | 24, rows 10–12 | 266, rows 16–45 | 324 | No | 16 aircraft |
| 2026 cabin | 48, rows 1–14 | 32, rows 15–18 | 210, rows 22–45 | 290 | Yes | Newest build |
⚠️ Refit alert — letters change between cabins
On the two door-suite cabins there is no row 9 and no row 13 in business. On every variant, economy has no seat F and no seat G — the layout is A-B-C | D-E-H | J-K-L, so the middle seats are B, E and K.
Business Class, Cabin by Cabin
2023 cabin — rows 1–14, 48 seats, 1-2-1 with doors
Bespoke Stelia Opera suites: 43in pitch, 21in wide, a 6ft 7in flat bed, a 20in 4K screen, a closing privacy door, wireless charging and Bluetooth audio. Every seat has direct aisle access.
The letters are A | D – H | L. There is no B, C, E, G, J or K anywhere in this cabin, and rows 9 and 13 do not exist. If a guide tells you to book D and G as a couple, it is describing a cabin Air France does not fly.
- Best seats: 6A, 6L, 7A, 7L. Mid-cabin window suites, furthest from both galleys.
- Couples: D and H in any row — the two centre suites, side by side with a lowerable divider.
- Avoid 8A and 8L — a lavatory bank sits immediately behind them.
- Avoid all of row 10 — it opens the rear business cabin with lavatories directly ahead. 10A, 10D, 10H and 10L all catch the traffic.
- Row 14 is fine, but bassinet positions sit in the premium economy bulkhead right behind it.
2019 cabin — rows 1–9, 34 seats, 1-2-1 Optima, no door
Still a strong seat: 20in wide, a 6ft 7in flat bed, an 18.5in HD screen and a winged privacy shell. No door, and no wireless charging or Bluetooth.
The seat letters alternate row by row, which is where most people go wrong:
- Rows 2, 4, 6, 8: A – E – G – L
- Rows 1, 3, 5, 7, 9: C – D – H – J
- Row 1 has only C and J. There is no 1A or 1L.
So the pair that sits close together is E and G on even rows and D and H on odd rows. A couple booking "D and G" will be split across two different rows.
- Best seats: 4A, 4L, 6A, 6L — true window suites, mid-cabin.
- 1C and 1J have extra counter space against the fuselage wall, but access to the forward lavatory is restricted during meal service.
- Row 9 is the last row, closest to the mid galley and the premium economy bulkhead.
2026 cabin — rows 1–14, 48 seats
Identical suite to the 2023 cabin — same door, same 20in 4K screen, same A | D – H | L lettering, same missing rows 9 and 13. The differences are behind the scenes: a Safran Rave entertainment system and Starlink fitted from delivery rather than retrofitted. Same picks: mid-cabin A or L, avoid 8A/8L and all of row 10.
Premium Economy — the Bulkhead Trap
Air France's A350 premium economy is a good cabin: Collins MiQ seats in 2-4-2, 19in wide, 37–38in pitch, lumbar support, a footrest and a 13.3in screen. The seat slides forward within its shell rather than reclining into the person behind.
🚫 The bulkhead row is the worst row in the cabin
- On the 2023 and 2026 cabins that is row 15; on the 2019 cabin it is row 10. Measured to the wall you get 63–65cm — about 25 to 26 inches, less than a normal bulkhead and less than the row behind.
- The tray table and screen live in the armrest, which narrows the seat, and bassinets are fitted here.
- On the 2019 cabin it is worse still: 10A, 10C, 10J and 10L have a lavatory immediately ahead.
- 17A and 17L have no window at all on the 2023 and 2026 cabins — solid wall panel.
✅ Book instead
Row 16 or 17 on the 2023 and 2026 cabins, or row 11 on the 2019 cabin. Note the letters differ: premium economy is A–B | D–E–G–H | K–L on the 2023 and 2026 aircraft, but A–C | D–E–G–H | J–L on the 2019 aircraft.
Economy, Cabin by Cabin
All three are 3-3-3, lettered A-B-C | D-E-H | J-K-L. There is no F and no G. The middles are B, E and K.
2023 cabin — rows 21–45, 212 seats
Safran Z300, 31in pitch, 18in wide, 13.3in 4K screen, USB-A and USB-C.
- Row 21 is the forward bulkhead. 21C and 21J are the picks — the bulkhead only covers 10% of the seat width there, so you get extra legroom on both sides.
- 24A and 24L have no window at all. 22A/22L and 25A/25L have badly set windows.
- Rows 27 and 28 back onto a lavatory bank. Row 28 is uniformly poor, and 28A and 28L have no window either.
- Row 30 is the overwing exit row, and it is not the prize it looks like. 30A and 30L have the exit door intruding into about 65% of the seat width, 45cm ahead. 30D, 30E and 30H sit against a bulkhead with a lavatory immediately in front. 30B and 30K are the only genuinely good seats in that row.
- Great window alignment: 36A/36L and 40A/40L.
- Rows 43, 44 and 45 sit against the rear lavatories. Row 45 has only A, B, D, E and H.
2019 cabin — rows 16–45, 266 seats
Safran Z300, 31in pitch, 18in wide, 11.6in HD screen.
- Row 16 is the forward bulkhead. 16C and 16J are the standouts (5–10% wall coverage). 16A and 16L have bulkhead legroom but poor windows and a bassinet fitted.
- 21A and 21L have no window at all. 22A/22L and 40A/40L have windows set behind the seat.
- Rows 28 and 29 are the worst block on the aircraft — a lavatory bank immediately behind both.
- Row 30 starts the rear cabin with lavatories ahead. There is no 30A or 30L, and 30B and 30K have no window.
- 31A and 31L are the best economy seats on this aircraft — extra legroom and a proper window.
- Great window alignment: 34A/34L, 38A/38L, 42A/42L.
- Row 45 has no A and no K, and the bins above J and L are crew-only.
2026 cabin — rows 22–45, 210 seats
Recaro R3 slimline, 13.3in 4K screen, and a split cabin: rows 22–28 are branded Economy Comfort at 34in pitch; rows 29–45 are standard at 30in.
- Row 22 is the one bulkhead on any Air France A350 that lives up to the billing: 75cm (29–30in) to the wall. 22A, 22B, 22C, 22J, 22K and 22L are the best economy seats in the fleet.
- 23A, 23L, 26A and 26L have no window at all.
- Rows 27 and 28 back onto a lavatory bank; 28A and 28L have no window either.
- Row 29 is the exit row and it is poor. There is no 29A or 29L; 29B and 29K have no window and a lavatory ahead; 29D, 29E and 29H sit against a bulkhead with a lavatory in front.
- 30A and 30L are the best seats in the rear cabin — extra legroom and a real window.
- Great window alignment: 34A/34L, 38A/38L, 43A.
- Rows 43, 44 and 45 are against the rear lavatories. Row 45 has only A, C, D, E and H.

| WiFi | Starlink, install in progress | Starlink, rolling out | Starlink from delivery |
Every Air France A350 is moving to Starlink. It is fitted from delivery on the newest build and being retrofitted across the 2019 and 2023 fleets, replacing Inmarsat GX Aviation. Starlink runs roughly 40–200 Mbps, fast enough for video calls and streaming. Until the retrofit reaches your aircraft you may still get the older GX service at 10–40 Mbps.
Quick Picks by Traveller
- Solo business traveller — 6A, 6L, 7A or 7L on the door-suite cabins; 4A, 4L, 6A or 6L on the 2019 cabin. Skip 8A, 8L and all of row 10.
- Couple in business — the centre pair is D and H on the 2023 and 2026 cabins. On the 2019 cabin it is E and G on even rows, D and H on odd rows. Never book D with G.
- Premium economy — row 16 or 17 (2023, 2026), row 11 (2019). Skip the bulkhead entirely, and skip 17A and 17L, which have no window.
- Tall traveller in economy — the 2026 cabin's row 22 at 75cm to the wall, or 30A/30L on the same aircraft. On the 2023 cabin, 21C or 21J. On the 2019 cabin, 31A or 31L. The exit row is not the answer on any of them.
- Family with an infant — bassinets are at the premium economy bulkhead (row 15 or row 10) and the economy bulkhead. On the 2019 cabin the premium economy bulkhead also has lavatories in front, which is a lot of disturbance in one row.
- Light sleeper in economy — stay out of the bulkhead rows, the exit row, and anything within two rows of a lavatory bank. The safe band is roughly rows 31–41 (2023), rows 31–39 (2019) and rows 31–41 (2026).
- Anyone who wants a window that lines up — 36A/L and 40A/L (2023); 34A/L, 38A/L and 42A/L (2019); 34A/L, 38A/L and 43A (2026).
How to Tell Which Version You Are On
- Count the business rows on the seat map at booking. Rows 1–9 means the 2019 cabin. Rows 1–14 with no 9 and no 13 means one of the two door-suite cabins.
- Check the business seat letters. A, D, H and L only means a door suite. Letters that alternate between A–E–G–L and C–D–H–J means the 2019 cabin.
- Check where economy starts. Row 16 means the 2019 cabin. Row 21 means the 2023 cabin. Row 22 means the 2026 cabin.
- Check the total seat count if your booking shows it. 324, 292 and 290 map to the 2019, 2023 and 2026 cabins respectively.
- Look for "Economy Comfort" in the seat-selection screen. Only the 2026 cabin has a branded 34in-pitch zone in rows 22–28.
- Re-check at T-24. Air France swaps A350 sub-fleets regularly, and a seat that was perfect at booking may not exist on the aircraft that turns up.
FAQ
Which Air France A350 has the best business class?
The 2023 and 2026 cabins, which are the same suite: 1-2-1, a closing privacy door, a 6ft 7in flat bed, a 20in 4K screen, wireless charging and Bluetooth audio. The 2019 cabin has the same bed length and full aisle access but no door and a smaller screen.
Which seats should a couple book in business?
D and H on the 2023 and 2026 cabins. On the 2019 cabin the centre pair changes by row: E and G on rows 2, 4, 6 and 8, D and H on rows 3, 5, 7 and 9. There is no seat G in the door-suite cabins at all.
Is the premium economy bulkhead the best row?
No — it is the worst. You get 63–65cm to the wall, which is less than a standard bulkhead, plus a tray table in the armrest that narrows the seat and bassinet positions overhead. On the 2019 cabin there are also lavatories immediately ahead. Book the second or third row instead.
Which economy seats have no window?
24A and 24L, plus 28A and 28L, on the 2023 cabin. 21A and 21L on the 2019 cabin, along with 30B and 30K. 23A, 23L, 26A, 26L, 28A, 28L, 29B and 29K on the 2026 cabin. In premium economy, 17A and 17L on the 2023 and 2026 cabins.
Is the exit row worth booking in economy?
Usually not. On the 2023 cabin the exit is row 30, and the door intrudes into about 65% of the width of 30A and 30L while 30D, 30E and 30H have a lavatory directly ahead — only 30B and 30K are clean. On the 2026 cabin the exit is row 29 and it is worse: no window seats at all, and lavatories in front of the centre block.
Which are the middle seats in economy?
B, E and K. The layout is A-B-C | D-E-H | J-K-L, with no seat F and no seat G on any variant.
Do Air France A350s have WiFi?
Yes, and it is being upgraded to Starlink across the whole type — already standard on the newest build and retrofitting across the older two. Starlink runs roughly 40–200 Mbps, which handles video calls and streaming.
Is there First Class on the A350?
No. La Première is only on selected 777-300ERs.
